PUCA initiative for PPI

18 February 2010

The PUCA initiative to promote the Poverty Assessment tool PPI, was announced in a press release by Grameen Foundation on 18 February 2010.
PUCA (PPI Users Collaborative in Africa) consists of a joint approach of Terrafina Microfinance, Oikocredit, Catholic Relief Services, Planet Rating and Grameen Foundation together with the national microfinance networks in Mali and Senegal to implement the PPI.

The PUCA initiative will work with Terrafina Microfinance partners MFI Caurie Microfinance and U-IMCEC in Senegal and Kafo Jiginew in Mali to implement the PPI and analyze its findings.

PPI, The Progress out of Poverty IndexTM, is a globally recognized poverty assessment tool that enables MFIs to understand their effectiveness in targeting poor clients and tracking their progress. PUCA will promote the adoption of the PPI by MFIs across Africa and in countries where PUCA partners are active.

Nadia Ouriemchi is Terrafina's program officer for West Africa.
