The knowledge Terrafina Microfinance has gained through its micro lending efforts was put to work in its Learning and Innovation programme.

The programme focuses on five themes:

1. Rural Finance: Identifying and promoting the most effective ways to support people living in remote and rural areas.
2. Crop Insurance: Examining and promoting the appropriateness and viability of insurance mechanisms to protect crops.
3. Social Performance Management: Developing quantitative tools to measure the impact that microfinance efforts are having on the alleviation of poverty.
4. Linking & Merging: Encouraging the connection of small, stand-alone client groups to existing MFI networks which enhances the professionalism of the financial services provided, even in rural areas.
5. Capacity Building: Identifying and promoting the actions MFIs need to take in order to become independent and professional institutions.
