Congo DRC transition

Based on strategic choices of Terrafina Microfinance and its mother organizations Terrafina will stop its partnerships in Congo DRC before end of 2011. Harm Haverkort travelled to Congo DRC for a last regular visit to our MFI partners Hekima and Paidek and the network GAMF.

The support to partners in Congo DRC started 4 years ago and resulted in partnerships with Hekima, Paidek and the network GAMF. The MFIs developed quite well but had to cope with true challenges related to natural disaster, human violence and political instability. Terrafina supported the organizations with TA and with funds for institutional development.
We are proud to say that as a result the MFIs are operating more or less OSS and that in general their portfolio quality is in line with the international standards. Also the network, although small, made the first steps to achieve synergy in sector through the facilitation of various trainings and workshops.

The intention is to link the Congolese partners of Terrafina Microfinance to existing networks and other donor organizations.

It seems that this lobby will be successful. Terrafina remains active in the region -  with intensive programmes in Rwanda and Burundi. It will keep the former partners in Congo DRC on the radar screen and may invite them for workshops and trainings if topics will be discussed that are interesting for the Congolese organizations.
